Hometown Days brings people from all over and then in the fall, the city puts on an "Art & Wine Festival". A weekly farmer's market known as "Hot Harvest Nights" between May and September is another local event that creates a strong sense of community.

The San Carlos local schools are very desirable—there are 4 elementary schools and 2 middle schools. The high school is either Carlmont or Sequoia depending on the location of the home.
